PROJECT MANAGER
POSITION: Project Manager – Outage Management Services (Outage Mgmt PM)
REPORTS TO: President/Vice-President
COMPANY: IEM Energy Consultants, LLC (“IEM”) specializes in all aspects of power plant operations, maintenance, and management. We are experiencing phenomenal growth due to the ever-changing landscape of the worldwide power generation sector and are actively involved in projects both domestic and international.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Working from home and client job sites, the Outage Management PM will lead the promotion and execution of the Outage Management service area for the company. This role will be responsible for business development, project management, resource management and overall P&L of the service area. The Outage Mgmt PM will be responsible for promoting this service offering throughout the industry domestically, with some international management possible. The Outage Mgmt PM will lead a team of IEM planners, engineers, and specialists. In addition, this role will require supporting the company’s Owner’s Engineer (OE) service area
Outage Management responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Business Development

Participate in (and often lead) the promotion of the service offering with clients.

Perform market research.
-
Client & lead qualification.
-
Develop cost estimates (often absent of the RFP). May require assisting the client in the scope of services for an RFP.

Attend and present technical papers at conferences.

Research competitors with respect to service offerings, capabilities, capacities, and pricing/profitability.
Project Management
-
Prepare proposals to include schedule, costs, deliverables, and contract terms.
-
Ensure that all company and client safety requirements relative to IEM’s scope of service and our personnel are met.

Manage the execution of projects with clients, including monitoring and forecasting of deliverables, costs, and profitability.

Manage invoices and contract requirements.
-
Manage execution by others and when required, manage project execution on site.
-
Manage client expectations to the benefit of both the client and IEM.

Provide hands-on resource oversight and direct assistance during plant maintenance outages.
Resource Management
-
Ensure outage management resources (including personnel) are utilized effectively based on client needs and resource availability.

Ensure that our human resources always meet or exceed safety training guidelines and best practices.
-
Participate / lead additional resource recruitment as needed (with support from company human resource professionals).

Identify and rectify any resource deficiencies (including skills or knowledge deficiencies).

Evaluate plant predictive and preventative maintenance programs and technologies.

Interpret plant test results, (e.g., borescopes, electrical, etc.).

Develop long term maintenance strategies and budgets.
-
Review work scopes and provide feedback for new projects.
Owner’s Engineer Support Services include:

Provide field services contractor oversight to ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with the contract and QA/QC standards established by Owner.

Provide onsite inspection and assessment of gas and steam turbine components.
-
Evaluate unit-specific equipment clearances, alignments, etc. to ensure OEM specification compliances.
-
Perform trouble shooting assistance for technical issues.
-
Witness, review, interpret and advise on inspection and test results, as applicable.

Monitor field service contractor adherence to existing foreign material exclusion plan.

Conduct quality inspections and FME close out inspections on behalf of Owner/Operator.

Monitor and report schedule progression/deviation.
-
Assist Owner/Operator in communicating work scope requests to the selected contractor(s) and represent Owner/Operator’s interest during performance of the work scope.

Attend meetings pertaining to project work scope, outage performance, lessons learned, and other related subjects to provide subject matter expertise on behalf of Owner/Operator and/or eye-witness accounts of events.

Communicate Owner/Operator requests to contractors.
-
Other duties as requested and required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of OSHA work safety requirements for operations, maintenance, and construction.

BS in a technical field such as Construction Management, Facilities Management, Mechanical Engineering (or similar) or equivalent documented experience in increasingly responsible positions in this industry.

Minimum 10 years relevant outage maintenance experience in both fossil steam and gas turbine-based power plants working for an asset owner/utility, OEM, or outage service provider.

Minimum 5 years an Outage Manager position to include direct and documented experience in the successful planning and execution of major outages.

Highly proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) as well as SharePoint and OneDrive, including both desktop and web applications.

Experience and proficiency using digital communication processes such as MS Teams, Zoom, Google Meet and others.

Demonstrated experience in project planning tools and methodologies including (but not limited to) Oracle Primavera Suite or MS-Project.

Ability to read, write and understand complex technical, legal, and financial documents in English, with Spanish (and other languages) beneficial desired qualifications.

Extensive knowledge of power generation maintenance technologies including mechanical, electrical, and chemical.

Working knowledge of thermodynamics, Brayton Cycle, and Rankine Cycle.

Ability to work constructively and equally well in independent, minimum supervision, and team environment settings.

Ability to assist with detection, diagnostics, and repairs of equipment malfunctions.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-
Ability to work effectively with external organizations and business associates, while presenting and promoting corporate goals and objectives.

Valid driver’s license.
-
Valid, unexpired passport.
-
Ability to travel worldwide for up to 4 weeks between home visits.

May require support for international trade shows and conferences.
-
Ability to climb, work in constricted spaces, lift and carry materials greater than forty pounds.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-
Power plant maintenance experience including troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and predictive maintenance programs.
-
Professional Engineering designation.
-
Bi-lingual or multi-lingual preferred.
